Completing the BLP Competency Assessment for Business Advisors
BLP’s advisor assessment process is a competency-based process, which means we look for evidence of advisors’ skills and knowledge being applied in real work situations. Using BLP’s online Competency Assessment Tool, candidates submit real examples of when they have personally provided professional advice to SMEs on business issues.
What are business advisory services?
Business advisory services refer to a range of professional services provided by technical experts to businesses of all sizes to improve their overall performance and achieving their objectives. These services can include financial planning and analysis, strategic planning, risk management, marketing and sales strategies, operational efficiency, and other areas that impact a business’s commercial and social success.
Business advisory services are typically provided by consultants, accountants, lawyers, and other professionals with expertise in different areas of business. The goal of these services is to help businesses make better decisions, optimize their operations, reduce costs, increase profits, and ultimately achieve long-term success.
BLP works with a network of Pacific based advisors that are quality approved and can offer subsidised services.
There are three steps in the BLP competency assessment process. Step 1 and Step 2 are required to become a BLP approved Advisor. Achieving Step 3 awards you the BLP Gold Certificate.
Step 1: My Info
Submit your contact details, your qualifications, your experience, and your referees’ contact details. Typically, BLP approved advisors are degree qualified; they have at least five years of relevant professional advisory experience, and they have clients who can vouch for their services.
Step 2: My Competencies
Select the technical competencies that best match your advisory services. Start with one competency; you can always go back and add other competencies afterwards. Once you’ve submitted your evidence, our panel of assessors will review and assess your evidence against BLP’s Competency Assessment process. Sometimes we may ask for further information to verify that the required competencies are demonstrated.
Competency-based assessment is not about pass or fail, you are either ‘Competent’ or ‘Not Yet Competent.’ Going through our process helps you identify for yourself, where you may need further experience or professional development to gain new advisory skills. There’s always the opportunity to come back and provide more evidence at a later stage once you’ve gained more experience.
Once your assessor has approved you for steps 1 & 2 you will become BLP approved. See below for more tips on how to complete the Competency Assessment. Typically, BLP approved advisors are degree qualified; they have at least five years of relevant professional experience, and they can provide several examples of how they meet the competencies through their advisory work with SME clients.
